A new loyalty programme mechanism

A programme to encourage repeat purchases, increase order frequency among regular customers and reactivate inactive customer segments.

Project lead

Context and challenge

The main objective was to increase purchase frequency among regular customers and strengthen their loyalty to the company. The programme needed to give customers a reason to place another order and encourage them to return. An additional objective was to reactivate inactive customer segments through short-term incentives and targeted communications.

My contribution

I developed and implemented a new loyalty programme design focused on repeat purchases and returning customers. I also developed short-term incentives with bonus credits for inactive segments and configured SMS and app push notifications to encourage the next purchase.

Approach and solution

Repeat purchases by regular customers

  • Designed the programme around encouraging the next purchase. Used customer behaviour and commercial performance data so that the programme would support more frequent returns by regular customers and strengthen their loyalty.
  • Used cohort analysis, RFM segmentation, LTV and funnels to analyse the customer base. This helped account for differences in customer activity and behaviour when developing the programme.

Reactivating inactive customer segments

  • Developed additional short-term incentives with bonus credits as part of the programme. These targeted inactive customer segments and gave customers an extra reason to return and make a purchase.

Communications to encourage the next purchase

  • Configured customer communications through SMS and push notifications in the app. The messages supported the loyalty programme incentives and encouraged repeat purchases and customers’ return to the company.

Outcome

The share of active programme users grew from approximately 12% to 40% of the customer base. The solution was rolled out across several brands.
